Singh Namdhari is one of India’s most dynamic table players, who is recognised
worldwide for is unique style of playing.
Sukhvinder
Singh was born in Ludhiana, Panjab,
India was brought up in the Holy Village of Bhaini Sahib. It is here that
Sukhvinder Singh embarked on his musical career.
Sri Bhaini
Sahib is a spiritual ashram where His Holiness Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh Ji is
the spiritual head of Namdhari Sikh sect. Sri Satguru JI
have spent a lot of money for the development of Indian Classical Music
and countless youngsters has become accomplished musicians.
When
Sukhvinder was 5 years old, Sri Satguru Ji realised his potential and destiny,
He began teaching him Hindustani Classical Music and noticed the natural gift of
laya and taal he had within him and made him a disciple of the Late Ustad Nihaal
Singh training him in Pakhwaj samrat. After receiving a sound foundation in
pakhawaj, Sukhvinder left his home to study the traditional gurushishya
parampara under none other than the
world renowned tabla samrat Pandit Kishan Maharaj Ji of Varanasi (Banaras), a
living legend in tabla playing. Pt Kishan Maharaj saw the potential and
dedication in this young prodigy and gave him meticulous attention and tutelage.
Pt Kishan Maharaj takes pride mentioning Sukhvinder as one his best disciples
who is carrying out the tradition of his ‘Banaras Baaj’ –(Banaras style of
table Playing)
Sukhvinder
Singh has had a meteoric rise in popularity. A phenomenal performer who is
sought after by many of India’s renowned artists. He is known for his keen
capability to capture the audience with his spontaneous power and virtuosity
during his performances. Sukhvinder has performed across the globe with eminent
sarod virtuoso Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. He also toured extensively across USA and
India with Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Classical Guitar Player – Mohan Veena), which
won a grammy award in 1994 –‘, A meeting by the River’ – released on a
CD.

Singh has also performed with India’s legendary Sitarist Pt. Ravi Shanker.
UK
performances have included the BBC, Philharmonic Orchestra in London, House of
Commons, The Proms in 1994 at the Royal Albert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall,
Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan. Sukhvinder Singh Namdhari has more than 40 CD’s in the
market worldwide.
